Trying to make sense of an energy bill is often something that confuses or scares people to the extent that they choose to ignore the maths and just carry on with their current supplier. Many are unaware of the true cost of doing so, even though those on standard tariffs are paying some of the highest rates on the market.

This guide from Citizens' Advice is really interactive and shows you where to find the key information for the 'Big 6' energy providers. If you're with a smaller supplier, there's also a generic template which goes through the main points as illustrated in the screenshot above.
